With a population of over 3000, Martham is an historical and traditional British village retaining its Norfolk charm. It is located 9 miles North of Great Yarmouth, 15 miles East of Norwich and 3 miles West of the beautiful unspoilt sand dunes of the North Sea. The Village lies partly in the Norfolk Broads National Park and one of its boundaries is the upper reaches of the Thurne river - a world famous fishing location.
The centre of Martham has a post office, a couple of pubs, a supermarket, a fish and chip shop, a Medical Centre, a pharmacy and a variety of other shops. Overall, the village has, amongst other things, over 30 businesses, two schools, a public library, a large playing field with a new all purpose young peoples playground, skate park and multi games arena.
It is a highly picturesque village, with many beautiful cottages and historic buildings. It is certainly well worth exploring the village itself during you stay at Gables Barn!
The Norfolk Broads landscape is one of beauty and peace, of water, marsh, woodland and wide skies - with views of church towers and windmills. There is abundant wildlife including many rare butterflies and dragonflies. Some of the nature reserves can only be visited by boat and a tour by road can disappoint.
Whether you enjoy walking, birdwatching, sailing, fishing, motor cruising, cycling, canoeing or just strolling between fine country pubs, when staying at Gables Barn, the Broads are right on your doorstep!
The historic city of Norwich is a bustling, busy market town with lots to see and do - museums, theatres, cinemas, arts venues, shops, churches and green spaces catering for families, couples and singles of all ages.
Attractions, parks and shops offer half term and school holidays activities from book reading to puppet making whilst adults can enjoy recitals, art galleries and bandstand concerts to name but a few - and most of these things to do are FREE.
Just a short drive away, Great Yarmouth offers 15 miles of sandy beaches, the famous 'golden mile' bursting with family attractions, a bustling town center with bargains galore and a busy working harbour.
Attractions include theme parks, gardens, museums, a fabulous choice of places to eat and drink, a bustling town centre and charming quayside, all within easy walking distance.
